WMS allows administrators to search for a user name as well as MAC and IP addresses. The system provides

real-time statistics and aggregate historical statistics. However, it does not allow administrators to select a

previous time period and view a dynamic “playback” of individual AP/client statistics from that time period. In

addition, the system does not allow administrators to select a previous time period and view a dynamic

“playback” of client location and individual AP/client statistics during that time period. The system does not

provide spectrum analysis functionality.

HP ProCurve

The HP ProCurve team used a partner-developed tool called RF Planner for the network design. The RF Planner

provides a wizard to configure the network. The wizard cannot be used for voice, but the user can modify the

data-design parameters to create a voice design. The tool auto-placed the APs onto the floor plan after completing

the wizard process.

The ProCurve Mobility Manager (PMM) is primarily used for monitoring, discovery, and mapping, but not for

configuration. Therefore, most of the activities for the manage use case were performed using the web interface

on the MSM760 controller. If a customer were to purchase the Identity Driven Manager (IDM) plug-in, then the

administrator would be able to analyze the user's history of access to the wired and wireless networks. IDM also

provides policy-based access control to the wired and wireless networks.

The controller-management interface provides device-oriented navigation, called a “tree view” (see Figure 7). If a

customer wants site navigation for a large, distributed network, that customer needs to purchase HP ProCurve

Manager Plus. The controller does not support client load balancing (although administrators can set a maximum

number of allowed clients per AP), band steering, or ATF.
